Fuel Protest from Lymm Truck Stop

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7452385.stm

“Scores of lorry drivers” apparently, well maybe just about ‘scores’. 55 vehicles in total I made it, including 5 or so bikes, an ice-cream van, a cement mixer, a couple of limos and a few vans. It wouldn’t have caused any problems at all if the police hadn’t blocked the outside lane.

Charging VAT while waiting for VAT Registration Number

I guess you’ve received an invoice with VAT on it from someone awaiting registration? Just pay the original amount and tell them that you’ll pay the VAT when you get a proper VAT invoice.

End users selling jobs on Trade sites

Someone wrote:

Quote:
‘end users’ should not use trade sites

there’s no law against it,

If a website is open to all users, either trade or end-user, then that’s up to them and to their users. If on the other hand Cheapskate Ltd pass themselves off as a courier company in order to gain access to a ‘trade only’ website then it’s what used to be known as “obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception” and is a serious criminal offence covered by Section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006.

On the original question, end-user access to sites like CX would undoubtedly be good news for owner-drivers and small companies with limited time/money/effort to expend on advertising, sales and marketing.

It wouldn’t be very nice though for capitalist bastards like me, getting fat from other people’s hard work.

Van Driver CPC

The ‘L’ in LGV is for ‘Large’ Goods Vehicles, not ‘Light’ Julian. 10th September 2008 for PCVs, 10th September 2009 for goods vehicles over 3,500kg. If the driver already holds a licence for the relevant vehicle category on that date then they don’t need the initial driver CPC and they don’t need to take the periodic training until 5 years later.

No mention of B+E in the Regulations so it looks like the Sprinter and trailer boys aren’t covered.

Which is more accurate, Satnav or Speedo?

Your speedo is allowed by law to over-read by 10% but never under-read. So the manufacturers tend to make them over-read.

Your satnav is probably more likely to show closer to your real speed.

Neither is likely to be 100% accurate, although the Satnav should be much more accurate most of the time – particularly on level ground.

Promotional items for courier companies

You’re thinking about promotional mouse-mats, promotional pens and promotional mugs all printed with your company name?

I once spent about 15 minutes trying to log on to the ‘Network’ to get a mobile number for someone only to realise that the pen that I’d been using for the last month had their name and number on it.

I think that companies get so many business cards, pens, mousemats etc that they just become oblivious to them – it’s like the banner adverts on the top of a webpage; you look at them the first time you use t’internet but after a while you don’t even notice them.

Fuel protests – good or bad publicity for the transport industry

Probably good, that’s what sheeple are like.

I can’t be arsed explaining how I’ve formed my opinion but I actually think that there’s a very good chance that high fuel prices will be good for the same day courier industry in the long term.

Not particularly good for anyone in the short term I admit – but you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

Roll on the £2 litre.

Fuel Protest-Time to Act now, join the convoy.

So you’re protesting in Scotland and delivering your fuel price petition to the Scottish Parliament?

That would that be the same Scottish Parliament that doesn’t control fuel duty anyway and is already screaming at Darling that they want a share of the increased oil revenues in order that they can subsidise fuel in Scotland.

If you wanted to send a message to Alistair Darling wouldn’t you be better delivering the petition to his constituency office? 22A Rutland Square, Edinburgh, EH1 2BB, 0131 476 2552
