Rangers fans in Manchester

It’s nothing to do with football, it’s just instinctive tribalism, same as when you’re a kid you fight against the kids in the next door school or the next door estate. It’s the same as a group of chimpanzees fighting with a neighbouring group – it’s built into the human psyche and there’s really very little that we can do to change the situation short of forcing every boy in the country to pass a psychology exam before they’re allowed to leave school so that they can understand, and attempt to control, their actions.

No-one has any respect for the law though Ali, because the politicians that make the laws, the police that enforce the laws and the judiciary that punish lawbreakers simply aren’t worthy of respect.

Whether we’re more gifted than animals is irrelevant – our brains are still hardwired with animal instincts and it takes understanding and willpower to overcome those instincts and act in a ‘civilised’ manner.
