CRB Checks

“How do you go about getting CRB checked” – you don’t, unless you’re involved in an activity which requires it. Most couriers aren’t involved in anything that would involve a Standard or Enhanced Disclosure, so they can’t be CRB checked by their employers or customers.

All that can be obtained is a Basic Disclosure, which is only ever issued to the applicant (the driver or whoever), these are available from www.disclosurescotland.co.uk. Ignore the fact that it’s a Scottish service – it covers the whole of the UK.

  1. That’s a ‘subect access report’ Pat and there are potential problems with employers requesting them from employees (or potential employees). The report should include ALL information that your local police force has on you – including convictions that are ‘spent’ under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Since employers aren’t permitted to request information on spent convictions except in specific limited circumstances (childcare & legal positions etc) it creates certain problems.

It will soon become a specific criminal offence to request that an employee supplies you with a copy of the results of a police subject access request.
