Late Payment Charge

Numerous statements, reminders and even the std legal threat letter failed so i adopted Steve’s tactic of the £40 late payment fee, to be waived if the guy paid up aaaaand…he still ignored me!

I picked up the forms to begin the CCJ procedure and then spotted this thread so contacted Direct Route online, i heard no more and forgot about it until this morning when they called to tell me that the full amount, including the £40 late payment fee, was in their office and would be sent out tonight – Happy days!

I hope that doesn’t come back and bite you. The late payment legislation only applies to transactions between businesses. You’ve levied an illegal charge on him and then demanded payment via a debt collection agency.

I won’t tell if you don’t though.

What is the courier ‘Network’ Missing?

A filter on the RJ search so that we can see only couriers who we’ve given a positive rating to in the last 12 months. Or alternatively a user-editable ‘favourites’ list that serves the same pupose.

Courier’s vehicle types shown in the ‘list’ view of a directory search.

Search the directory by postcode and have the list ordered by distance or travelling time, rather than some strange mixture of star-rating, location and alphabetical order.

£10 invoice discount or surcharge

Well it’s an odd way of doing it, but perfectly legitimate. It’s reasonably common to receive an invoice for a larger amount than agreed, with a discount to reduce the sum the originally quoted figure.

A £10 supplement for paying after 30 days is perfectly reasonable and is less than the £40 we’d charge you for the same privilege. Remember that your supplier can impose whatever terms on you that they wish unless an agreement’s made before work is carried out.

Disputing part of an invoice isn’t legal grounds for non-payment of the admitted part.

London Courier Link – a good idea?

At those rates you’d need to shift 10 cons a day, every day, just to earn a wage Gill.

£30-£35 is a reasonable rate unless you want the driver to delay the delivery for 3 hours while he consolidates a load.

Whatever happened to Viavan?

That’s a shame, they seemed to have the right sort of attitude to make a go of it. There’s really very few people that make it past 3 years in this business though.

Contaminated Fuel

Generally all forcourts use the same fuel, from the same refineries, with different additive packages. For example the BP garages in Ellesmere Port sell fuel from Shell Stanlow (or Eastham maybe – I don’t know) but with a custom BP additive package.

I think that Tesco and Morrisons sell petrol with a 5% bioethenol mix which is sourced from Greenergy.

This sort of fits in with what Sarah’s saying about a refinery in the Ipswich/Yarmouth area – there isn’t an oil refinery anywhere near there to my knowledge. There IS a Greenergy bioethenol refinery at Wissington in Norfolk though.

I’ve not seen the news yet this morning so no doubt my theory will be proved wrong within 10 minutes.

Courier company gone bust

HMRC aren’t classed as preferential creditors any more so there’s much more chance of receiving something after the liquidation.
