Courier Journey Matching System

Martin – AIUI the RJ ‘matching system’ notifies you of jobs in a ‘corridor’ that widens depending on how far from home you are. It’s not anywhere near perfect but it’s a vast improvement on what it was like not so long ago.

Al*** – believe it or not people aren’t only interested in jobs that will take them towards home – which is why you’ve got a ‘Go Anywhere Option’ on the RJ entry screen. What did you think that was for? Today I’ve had someone from Weston-Super-Mare who was dropping in Cardiff do a job for me from South Wales to Heathrow, someone from Ipswich dropping in Luton do a job for me from Harrow to Heathrow, Someone from South Wales dropping in Basildon do an Ilford to Clapham, Someone from Windsor dropping in Wiltshire do a Somerset to Southend, I could go on. Quite often ‘Network’ isn’t used in quite the way you may believe.

That makes less sense than what I thought you meant to start with!

Ah, did you misread Martin’s “return north or south on the opposite side of the country”? He explained what he meant later. He means that if, say, he’s in Edinburgh and heading home to Kent he’d like to be informed of collections from Hull as well as collections from Liverpool, since he can re-route his journey home to pass within an hour of either location.

You’re missing the point Al***, if he posted a ‘Via Carlisle’ on his Edinburgh to Kent it would cut out collections in Yorkshire. If he posted a ‘Via Newcastle’ it would cut out collections in Lancashire.

I think Martin understood those points Al*** – that was what he was complaining about! You could have stopped us all from getting headaches simply by stating your point 5 several messages ago.

    Have a good weekend.

    “tact & diplomacy” Martin? Me?

SOLUTION: I wonder if the system could be tweaked so that when the ‘VIA’ system is introduced it will accept multiple simultaneous RJs (for owner drivers) posted with the identical Start and End points but different VIA points?

This system wouldn’t allow posting of RJs for multiple vehicles but would solve the problem that Martin’s highlighted.

So for a Edinburgh to Kent RJ Martin could post “Edinburgh to Sittingbourne via Darlington” at the same time as “Edinburgh to Sittingbourne via Warrington” and maybe (just to pick up any stray jobs) even “Edinburgh to Sittingbourne via Oxford”.
