Stupid F-ing Sunday jobs…

Thanks to Paulo at 247 Emergency Courier and Peter and Alan @ Locklink Logistics for helping me out with tonight’s stupid jobs.

Also thanks to the Highways Agency for shutting the M6 for no good reason and Green Flag for arriving almost an hour late and leaving me stranded in a pub all afternoon;-) My liver salutes your conspiracy.

ADR requirement?

As I understand it (and I’m not a DGSA so I could well be wrong) he could carry as much of it as he wanted in his car because ADR regulations only apply to goods vehicles.

The ADR ‘awareness’ get-out, for vehicles of 3.5 tonnes and less, ends on 1st January 2007, but in the case of this particular substance that wouldn’t make any difference anyway because it’s Transport Category 4. If you’ve had ‘awareness’ training you can carry as much of it as you want without full ADR and that won’t change after 1st January. Because it’s Class 1 you’ll need to have a suitable fire extinguisher, not smoke and make sure the load is supervised at all times if the weight of the actual explosives is over 50 kg and there’s a few other things you should at least check up on.

As Jerry says, if you don’t know what you’re allowed to carry and what you’re not then it’s probably better to leave it to someone who does know. That’s certainly what I do.

Sprinter and trailer issues

James, if those are the figures that apply to your van then you’re correct, as long as it’s a braked trailer, which it should be at that weight. You could even carry a bit less in the van and a bit more on the trailer – although I believe it’s best to keep as much of the total weight in the van as possible when towing.

If the trailer has an unladen weight of over 1020kg then you’ll need an O licence. You’ll need a tacho anyway but i think you knew that.

Breaking News

Also removed my message on this thread saying “Pathetic, haven’t you got anything better to do?”
Please explain how that comment was not appropriate and show me the guidelines on appropriate material.

More importantly, please explain how a joke which racially stereotypes the Jewish race is ‘appropriate’ while a joke that makes fun of an Australian nutter with a now fulfilled death wish is ‘inappropriate’. You not only haven’t removed the racist joke but you’ve ignored and removed my complaint about it.

And again I ask why is the word ‘Bloody’ more acceptable than the non-word W**kers?

5* ? Don’t make me laugh

Unfortunately Dean you can’t impose a charge like that unless you have the other party’s agreement before they enter into a contract with you. All you’ll achieve is to allow the scumbag bad payer to laugh at your ignorance. No offence intended.

You can however impose statutory late payment charges and interest under the late payment legislation.

See www.paylate.co.uk

or www.payontime.co.uk

or particularly www.paylate.co.uk/late.pdf

or you could just pass everything to Directroute after warning the scumbags that you will do so in 7 days.

Weight Limits and Insurance Cover in Europe

It’s one of the underlying principles of the EU that things like this are dealt with consistently throughout the union – hence unified drivers’ hours laws, ADR, CMR etc. EU law states (somewhere) that if a vehicle can be driven legally in one member country then it can be driven in all member countries. If not it would give one member an advantage over another and breach some directive somewhere.

NHS Purchasing Agency, NHS Logistics & DHL

How is DHL’s takeover of the functions of NHS Puchasing Agency and NHS Logistics likely to affect the courier companies that already carry out work for NHS Logistics?

It’s probably to early in the process for any details to be available but has anyone got any thoughts?
