  1. As I said at the time Pat, they’re going to have to work a bit hard to get that up and running by next January. Less than 4 months to pass the legislation, erect all the cameras and paint 10,000 giant Cs in the road? The extension into Kensington & Chelsea doesn’t even start until next February. There’s also been no increase to £10 announced, although I can’t see that it would make much difference anyway.

The increase for ‘heavy vehicles’ that John mentions is probably a reference to the Low Emission Zone that they’re planning on setting up. This PROPOSED scheme is planned to start in February 2008 and will cover the WHOLE OF GREATER LONDON. It will apply to all lorries over 7.5 tonne that don’t meet Euro III standards. From July 2008 this will also apply to vehicles over 3.5 tonne – so anything that needs a tacho.

The charge is expected to be set at £100 – £200 PER DAY with penalties of up to £1000 for late payment.
